Jason Aldean Pulls New Album From Spotify, Just Like Taylor Swift
Pullin' it down! Jason Aldean followed Taylor Swift's lead on Monday, Nov. 10, and pulled his latest album, Old Boots, New Dirt, from streaming music service Spotify.
Aldean's sixth studio album, which includes his smash single, "Burnin' It Down," was initially available for users to stream after its release last month. A Spotify spokesperson confirmed to the Associated Press that Old Boots, New Dirt was pulled, though no further details were released.
On Spotify, a note was added beside where the tracks previously existed. "The artist or their representatives have decided not to release this album on Spotify," the message read. "We are working on it and hope they will change their mind soon."
The country superstar's latest record previously hit number one on the Billboard 200 and still remains one of the top 10 records on the list, as well as one of iTunes top ten albums.
Aldean's surprising move comes after fellow singer-songwriter Swift revealed last Thursday, Nov. 6, why she recently pulled her music from Spotify entirely.
"The landscape of the music industry itself is changing so quickly, that everything new, like Spotify, all feels to me a bit like a grand experiment," the former country star told Yahoo! "I'm not willing to contribute my life's work to an experiment that I don't feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists and creators of this music. And I just don't agree with perpetuating the perception that music has no value and should be free."

She illustrated her point by comparing music to works of art. "I felt like I was saying to my fans, 'If you create music someday, if you create a painting someday, someone can just walk into a museum, take it off the wall, rip off a corner off it, and it's theirs now and they don't have to pay for it,'" Swift reasoned. "And so I decided to change the way I was doing things."
While Aldean has not yet directly addressed the reason why he pulled his music, the singer graciously thanked his fans via Instagram earlier this month for purchasing his music. "Just wanna say Thanks to everyone who went out and got a copy of the new album last week," Aldean wrote. "Another huge first week for us and another #1 album debut. Thanks to the Aldean Army. Hands down, the best fans out there. #oldbootsnewdirt #aldeanarmy #number1."
