Either Billy Bob Thornton has a very VERY good make-up artist or he and Mr Botox have recently become good friends.

The 55-year-old actor looked like he'd turned back the clock ten years as he arrived for the premiere of his new film in Los Angeles last night.

The lower part of his face didn't look as jowly as usual, his soft jawline looking much tighter than in recent years.

And as he smiled for the cameras, his forehead barely moved, suggesting he'd had some cosmetic work done.

Thornton has also shaved his sideburns and dyed his locks brown, although there was some evidence of his grey poking through.

The actor, who was once famously married to Angelina Jolie, 35 , was attending the premiere of his new film Faster at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood last night.

Accompanied by his girlfriend Connie Angland, he was joined by his co-star Dwayne Johnson, 38, who is better known by his wrestling name The Rock.

Other stars of the film Carla Gugino, 39, and rising British star Oliver Jackson-Cohen, 24, also joined Thornton on the red carpet.

Thornton stars in Faster as a policeman on the verge of retirement who must stop bank robber Driver (Johnson) from avenging the death of his brother.

And he said of his character: 'I'm attracted to roles like that. And I'm playing a guy who also, his life's kind of gone down the wrong path.

'He's a cop, but he's kind of tired, ready to get it over with and rejoin his estranged family and that kind of thing. And that attracted me to it, also. That type of character.'

Thornton said he may also reprise his role in a sequel of his 2003 film Bad Santa and added: 'Bad Santa's become like a classic Christmas movie. People watch It's A Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th St. and Bad Santa now is sort of the box set.

'There's been talk of making a sequel to it, which I actually would like to do. I've never done a sequel to one of my movies, but that one makes sense to me to do it.'
